SUBJECT: COLD
WEATHER REMINDER
Don't
forget to turn off your outside faucets……………….
It is important to shut off the water to
the outside before the weather gets so cold that the water
freezes. This can cause the faucet and pipes to break and
possibly flood your house.
What to do:
-
Shut off the valve inside the house
that goes to the hose faucet. (the hose faucet is also
called a hose bib)
-
Disconnect the hose from the outside
faucet.
-
Open the hose faucet a couple of turns
to drain the water that is still in the pipe.
-
If the water does not shut off
completely, try tightening the inside valve a little
more.
-
If it still does not shut off, call
your plumber.
If......... you have a frost free hose
faucet the only thing you need to do is disconnect the hose.
If the hose is left connected it can trap the water in the
faucet which can freeze and this can cause water damage. By
disconnecting the hose the water can drain out.
If a frost free hose bib is installed
properly it is not necessary to shut off the valve and drain
it........... just disconnect the hose.
